Cookie Go Day is Tomorrow

posted Feb 10, 2012 8:16 AM by Linda Lutgen

I want to thank you all of you in advance for your volunteer time and talents.     Being a cookie manager is such an important job.    There are girls right in our own community that cannot afford to be in girl scouts.   Selling cookies is bigger than just raising money for your troop.

So she doesn't feel left out...
For every 6 boxes that are sold, a girl can join girl scouts, .
So she doesn't feel different...
For every 2 1/2 cases sold, she can get books and a uniform
So she can give back...
She sells cookies.

World Thinking Day 2012

posted Feb 10, 2012 8:12 AM by Linda Lutgen

World Thinking Day is coming up. We are not having a traditional world thinking day for the service unit this year. However, click the link below and it will send you to a list of activities that your scouts can do to earn the badge. It is fairly simple to just adjust something you already are planning and you have done some of the activities.

The theme for World Thinking Day 2012 is girls worldwide say "we can save our planet." This theme is based on United Nation's Millennium Development Goal 7 focused on environmental sustainability.

The World Thinking Day award is now an OFFICIAL Award and therefore it may be worn on the front of the Official Uniform sash or vest. To earn the award, girls complete one or more activities below.

Troop Finance Reports

posted Jan 11, 2012 6:52 AM by Sue Lebakken

Start the year off right and get your troop finances in order! Every troop treasurer should be prepared to turn in their troop's Annual Troop Finance Report by June 15, 2012 along with the troop's May bank statement. The Troop Finance Report form is available in PDF form and new this year is an Excel spreadsheet tool to assist troop treasurers in tracking troop income/expenses. Both documents can be found in the Leader section of our site. You are NOT required to use the spreadsheet and you can use whatever method works best for you.  We only need the summary, so how you get there is up to you.   Please take a minute to look at the Troop Finance Report so you can verify you are on track to report these numbers to me by the end of the school year. Questions? Contact Sue Lebakken at treasurer@girlscoutsedina.org

Girl Scout flash mob!

posted Dec 30, 2011 1:57 PM by Linda Lutgen   [ updated Dec 30, 2011 1:59 PM ]

Shh… It’s a Girl Scout flash mob!

We would LOVE to get a leader or two who would be willing to organize this for Edina.  Please email serviceunitmgr@girlscoutsedina.org  if you are willing to be the point person,

As part of the Great Girl Gathering @ Mall of America, the Girl Scoutdance flash mob will be an incredible and powerful way for girls to join together in celebration. The flash mob will occur on March 10 and 11 in the Mall of America rotunda.

What’s a flash mob? Flash mobs are groups of people who show up in public places for seemingly impromptu performances. The performers blend into the crowd both before and after the “show” to give onlookers a fun and surprising experience.

Five of River Valleys’ girls helped Communications Specialist Ashleigh Penrod create flash mob training videos so that any girl (or grownup!) can learn and practice the dance. The flash mob is broken up into three sections based on recommended Girl Scout grade levels, but everyone is encouraged to learn whatever they are comfortable performing.

Join this fun, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and learn the dance! Information and training videos can be found atGSRV100.org/flashmob. For up-to-the-minute news during the performance dates (March 10 and 11), join the flash mob mobile messaging group by texting FLASHMOB to 27138.

Since flash mobs are inherently secret, the webpage is not searchable on River Valleys’ Centennial website. Here’s how you can spread the word:

  • Bring it up at your next troop meeting. Do you have a dancer in your troop? She can help teach her sister Girl Scouts.
  • Encourage your girl(s) to send the url—GSRV100.org/flashmob—to friends and invite them to practice together.
  • Talk to your service unit manager about getting a group of multiple troops together to learn the dance.

There will be two rehearsals for those who wish to practice and/or learn the dance in person. Space is limited; please RSVP to Ashleigh at Ashleigh.Penrod@GirlScoutsRV.org or 651-251-1212.

Cookie Training

Cookie Training

To All Cookie Managers:

We understand that your time is valuable and have worked hard to create an online training module that respects your time and fits within our resource budget :-)
Please complete this training by 1/10/11.   We have 90+ troops selling cookies and we would appreciate if everyone could take the 20-30 minutes to complete the training module.

Please go to http://www.girlscoutsedina.org/cookies/cookie-training to complete your training.
You will need the following:
  1. Troop Cookie Manager Guide Book you received when you picked up your cookie materials.
If you prefer, you can also download the guide book as a PDF and read it on your computer.
  2. Review the Edina Cookie FAQs.
It would be ideal if you took the time to
  1. Watch a recorded Webinar for Troop Cookie Manager.
Clicking on the Webinar link will open a new browser window.
The video will either begin playing or you may be prompted to download a .wmv file which you can then watch after the download completes. (It depends on how you have your browser set up.)
  2. This is a good thing to watch, but it is not required to complete the training.

Once your training is complete, our service unit cookie manager will review your answers and we personally contact you to help clarify any questions that you may have.    We hope that by providing this training, we can help you with your specific questions.

Edina Girl Scouts are looking for any combination (with at least 2 adults) and 8 girls to be delegates representing Edina.   All 10 members will have a vote.   There is also space for 5 alternates.

Saturday, January 21, 2012

The annual meeting will include:

However, even if the annual meeting is not something that you can attend, consider the delegate kick off which is in Edina on January 3

Please contact me at serviceunitmgr@girlscoutsedina.org if you have questions.

Delegate Dialogues

Over 100 adult, girl and National delegates participated in the October delegate dialogues. We appreciate you input concerning the national proposals and River Valleys' proposed bylaw changes.

Review the consolidated bylaws inputs the delegates received during the October dialogues. As the Bylaws Task Group prepares recommendations for the Board of Directors, they request any additional feedback and input be sent to delegates@girlscoutsrv.org

For more information, please contact 800-845-0787 or e-maildelegates@girlscoutsrv.org.

The 2012 delegate dialogue schedule will be posted here after the current delegate survey data is processed.
